Colwick driving test preparation

If you are taking your driving test in Nottingham, it will be at the Colwick test centre, just east of the city. The roads there bring together roundabouts, busy junctions, dual carriageways and quieter streets, and we get you confident on all of it.
How we prepare you
Rather than drilling a fixed route, which the DVSA no longer publishes, we build your skills on the roads and situations you will actually meet around Colwick. As your test nears, we run mock tests under realistic conditions, with honest feedback, so the real thing feels familiar.
What happens on the day
Your test lasts around 40 minutes and includes:
- An eyesight check (reading a number plate from about 20 metres)
- A couple of “show me, tell me” vehicle safety questions
- General and independent driving, following a sat nav or road signs
- One reversing manoeuvre, and possibly an emergency stop
To pass, you need no serious or dangerous faults and 15 or fewer driving faults.

Common questions
Where is the Nottingham driving test centre?
Nottingham practical tests are taken at the Colwick test centre, on the Colwick Industrial Estate just east of the city. Your lessons focus on the roads and junctions around that area.
Do you teach the actual test routes?
No. The DVSA stopped publishing test routes, and memorising one does not make you a safe driver. We prepare you to read and respond to any road, so wherever the examiner takes you, you are ready.

How will I know when I am ready?
We are honest with you. We use mock tests under realistic conditions and only encourage you to book when we genuinely believe you are ready, because that gives you the best chance.
